Gaze

2022
33.5* 44 cm
Watercolor, pastel, colored pencil

Inspired by Michel Foucault's  panopticon, Gaze explores the power dynamics between the observer and the observed. It depicts women without eyes, symbolizing their lack of power to return the gaze within a patriarchal society. The exaggerated portrayal of the women in distorted, supple poses challenges the viewer to reflect on the objectification and constraints imposed on women by male-dominated structures. This approach not only highlights the struggles of women but also invites every viewer to reconsider their role as an observer, fostering a deeper engagement with the themes of power and submission.

This work is currently on display at Hutchins Gallery.  October 10 through December 15
